1.  The following staff have been recently promoted (effective from 1st October 2017)

2. Congratulations to the following PhD students who have recently successfully completed their vivas:

(a) Adam Sanitt (supervisor: John Talbot) ''Turán problems in graphs and hypergraphs''
(b) Adam Townsend (supervisor: Helen Wilson) ''The mechanics of suspensions''

3. Recent grant successes:

(i) Slava Kurylev and Lauri Oksanen: ''Nonlinear geometric inverse problems'' (joint with Cambridge)
(ii) Timo Betcke: ''Reducing the Threat to Public Safety:  Improved metallic object characterisation, location and detection'' (joint with Swansea)

4. At the recent De Morgan Dinner, Isidoros Strouthos was awarded the annual Department Teaching Award for all-round excellence in teaching and support for students.
