How can we study the structure of complex viruses? How can we understand why this structure has evolved as it has? My project is concerned with answering these questions in the context of poxviruses. I am developing new tools to model the structure of viruses using super-resolution microscopy and computational methods such as single-particle analysis. Additionally I am carrying out virological characterisation of this resulting structure to better understand exactly how poxviruses structure themselves in order to allow them to enter and infect cells.
