LMCB - MRC Laboratory for Molecular Cell Biology

Core training consists of rotation projects and thesis, tutorials, practical lab course, LMCB retreat, advice and supervision (see PhD programme). In addition, annual student conferences are organised with a partner institute where students give a talk or present a poster. Previous locations include Barcelona, Sorrento, and Paris.
High profile speakers are invited once a year by students to give a seminar at the LMCB. Students are given the opportunity to discuss their work individually with the speaker. Previous speakers have included Thomas Sudhof and Bruce Alberts. Students also take turns to have lunch with our external seminar speakers. This is an excellent opportunity to discuss your work with a prominent scientist. Please look at our Seminars page for a list of current speakers.
There is an active student committee, with representatives from each year from both the LMCB programme and non-programme students. The committee discusses student life at the LMCB and reports their views to the Postgraduate Committee. The committee chair also represents students at group leader meetings.
Demonstrating for UCL undergraduate practicals and tutorials can be undertaken by PhD students. Students are paid for their time as a PGTA. This is an excellent experience for future careers.
Skills exchange workshops provide training on a variety of experimental techniques. They are run by internal or external staff with the appropriate expertise.
