Building consensus on definition and nomenclature of HPB organoids

Hepatic, pancreatic and biliary (HPB) organoids have recently emerged as excellent model systems of regenerative processes and disease. The new perspective published in Cell Stem Cell establishes nomenclature and definition of HPB organoids, based on the consensus reached by a panel of 68 experts, including Luigi Aloia at the LMCB. The HPB consortium also proposes guidelines for establishing, characterising and benchmarking organoid systems. Therefore, this article solves a long-term issue in the organoid field and the scientific community investigating liver and pancreas biology, by establishing unambiguous definition and nomenclature of HPB organoids.
