Biography

London wine merchant and son of Charles Clifton of Demerara.

  1. At St Mary's Lambeth September 1824: marriage of George James Clifton, youngest son of the late Charles Clifton Esq. of Demerara, to Mary, second dau. of John Revans of Kennington-lane.

  2. George James Clifton, wine merchant, at 47 Lime Street, London, in 1836.

  3. 1837 sale of No 7 and 15 Kent-terrace Park Road, lease to John Bloxam Elin and George James Clifton for 80 guineas p.a.

  4. In 1851 George J Clifton aged 47 wine merchant born West Indies was living at 13 Waverley Place St Johns Wood with wife Mary aged 45 born Kennington and two sons in their early 20s, born Kennington and Middlesex. In 1861 the couple were still at the same address, he born Demerara, with two children, Eliza and Geo. H.

  5. By 1854, George James Clifton was bankrupt. No probate details have yet been found; genealogical material on Ancestry.com gives his date of death as 1867.
