Biography

Awarded the compensation for Woodland in Barbados. This is almost certainly the Rev. Edward Lovell, an English clergyman, whose father died in England c. 1810 and who was the son of Mary Lovell (q.v.) The Reverend Edward Lovell was shown as having purchased Woodland in 1825. He was also shown as slave-owning in the 1826 Slave Register indexed to St Michael Barbados (through an attorney), while 'Edward Lovell' is shown indexed to St George for 1834 (when he made his own registration): Woodland appears to have been in St George. However, many of the enslaved people appearing in the 1826 and 1834 registrations are clearly the same persons.
