Biography

Son of John Scott senior of Clarendon Park, Clarendon and Retreat Estate, St Thomas-in-the-East, and main beneficiary of the Jamaican estates in his father's trust will: a claim was also made by Charles Scott as attorney of John J. Scott for the compensation on Clarendon Park in Clarendon and Retreat in St Thomas-in-the-East, Jamaica, his father's former estates. Trustee of his brother George Henry Cussans Scott with William Knight Dehany for half the compensation on the Flamstead estate in Port Royal Jamaica.

  1. Oldest son of John Scott 'of Marylebone' [John Scott of Jamaica, q.v.] and Elizabeth Favell Scott née Pinnock (q.v., under Elizabeth Scott). Matriculated Exeter College Oxford 05/02/1825 aged 17, BA 1829 MA 1831. Various curacies 1833-85 [sic]. Vicar of Holy Trinity Barnstaple (which he built) 1845-1853.

  2. He is almost certainly the Rev. John James Scott formerly of 13 Bladud-Buildings but late of 28 Henrietta Street both in Bath who died 05/05/1890, whose death was registered Q2 1890 in Bath and whose will was proved by his widow Katherine of 9 Girdlers Road Kensington, personal effects £77 16s 3d. In 1861 the couple were living at Bradford on Avon aged 54 and 47 respectively with son Richard, aged 4; and in 1871 at Plaitford Wiltshire (now Hampshire) aged 64 and 58. In both cases John James Scott was described as curate, born Middlesex and St Marylebone in 1861 and 1871 respectively. Katherine was his second wife: he was a widower when they married in 1855. Described as of Lynmouth, Devon, when he married Elizabeth Margaret, eldest daughter of the late Lieut. General Aylmer of Walworth Castle, Durham, 05/01/1833.
