Given as Walter Crawfurd Bernard (in St James 163) and Walter Crawford Bernard (St Elizabeth 105). Partner in C.E. & W.C. Bernard West India merchants and Bernard, Vining & Co, sugar refiners. Son of Charles Edward Bernard (d. 1842) (q.v.) and the partner of his brother Charles Edward Bernard junior (q.v.).

  1. Married Caroline Hathaway 06/12/1831 Clifton Gloucs. Died Cheltenham Q1 1885, aged 76. 1841 census at Cornwallis Crescent, Clifton, age 30, merchant, born in county, with Caroline age 35 and two female servants. At 33 Cornwallis Crescent in 1851, "sugar refiner". 1861 census Walter C. Bernard aged 53 living 1 Paragon, Clifton, Gloucestershire, described as Landed Proprietor born Bristol (no sign of wife Caroline or of any children). At Priory Lawn, Cheltenham in 1871. Will of Walter Craufuird Bernard late of Lothian Villa Cheltenham who died 25 February 1885 proved at Gloucester by Charles Hathaway of Bernard House in the City of Bath MD and Rev. Edward Penrose Hathaway of Holbrook near Ipswich two of the executors. Personal estate £4223 10s 11d.
