Biography

Son of soldier George Flowers (d. 1809) and Anne Greenhough, and husband of Elizabeth Ann Palmer (nee Clark), who was a beneficiary under the will of John Houstoun (q.v.). John Flowers was born in Bandon Ireland in 1798. Anne Greenhough returned to her native Lichfield with her children in 1812. Flowers was clerk to the Duchy of Lancaster in the 1820s, and then spent a number of years in attempting to secure the legacy left to his wife by John Houstoun.

  1. 27/09/1820 John Flowers married Elizabeth Ann Palmer widow at Covent Garden St Pauls. When John Houstoun Flowers was baptised May 1823 born Dec. 13 1822, John Flowers' address was given as Somerset House, Clerk in Duchy of Lancaster's Office; on 08/12/1824, when Elizabeth Ann Flowers was baptised, John Flowers was characterised as a clerk of the Duchy of Lancaster Office.

  2. 1851 census Elizabeth Ann Flowers living Tipton aged 61 born Surrey; Elizabeth Ann Flowers, daughter born London; William Clark Flowers son aged 18 born Staffordshire; 1891 census Elizabeth Ann Flowers aged 67 born Poplar 1824 schoolteacher living Tipton with niece Lizzie (born Staffs.)

  3. John Houstoun Flowers late of Hampton Court Village near Hampton Court 'died in or since 1855', letters of administration granted to Elizabeth Ann Flowers spinster, the lawful attorney of Mary Flowers widow the relict now residing at Emerald Hill near Melbourne in Australia.

  4. The will of John Flowers late of Church Lane Bristol, newsagent of St Philip and Jacob Bristol, who died 04/11/1864, was proved by Hannah Jones of Church Lane 18/11/1864, effects under £200.
