Biography

Governor of Jamaica.

Will of Sir William Beeston of Island of Jamaica proved 17/11/1702. He left his daughter Jane Modyford, wife of Sir Thomas Modyford, £3000 which he had ordered to be paid in England to settle the mortgage on the Angell estate (which belonged to her husband). The rest of his property Beeston left to his wife Ann Hopegood Beeston.

Enslaved boy on Unity Valley Pen, Jamaica. Manumitted in 1795 by David Barclay and removed to Philadelphia, with 29 other freed persons from the estate, where he was placed under the care of Society for Improving the Condition of Free Blacks.
