Biography

Son of Henry Dakins senior and his wife Elizabeth Drury. Memorial inscription at the Old Burial Ground, Halfway Tree: HERE LYETH THE BODY OF MRS. ELIZABETH DRURY, MOTHER OF COLONEL HENRY DAKINS, OB. MARCH 31, 1733, ALT. 76. ALSO, CHARLES DAKINS, SON OF ELIZABETH DRURY, OB. JUNE 12, 1711, AET. 34. ALSO, JOHN DAKINS, SON OF ELIZABETH DRURY, OB. 21 JUNE, 1725, AET. 16 & 4 D. ALSO, DR. RICHARD DAKINS, SON OF ELIZABETH DRURY, OB. 1 NOV. 1732, AET. 48 & 10 M.

Tentatively identified as John Dakins of St Andrew, goldsmith. Estate probated in Jamaica in 1726. Slave-ownership at probate: 7 of whom 3 were listed as male and 4 as female. 0 were listed as boys, girls or children. Total value of estate at probate: £527.13 Jamaican currency of which £191 currency was the value of enslaved people. Estate valuation included £28.23 currency cash, £108.56 currency debts and £0 currency plate.
