John Grant Baron of the Exchequer

Biography

Son of Patrick Grant, Lord Elchies (1694-1750) and brother of Andrew Grant (q.v.). According to the ODNB entry for Patrick Grant, John Grant died in 1775 in Grenada 'where he had extensive sugar estates.' These estates have not been directly identified by LBS but might include River Antoine, held by his brother and heir Andrew Grant at the latter's death c. 1779.

  1. Will of John Grant, gentleman and Baron of HM's Exchequer [of Scotland], of island of Grenada proved 23/01/1778. The will is very simple and left everything to his brother Andrew Grant subject to an annuity of £25 p.a. more than her present annuity to his sister Margaret.
