Biography

Inferred to be owner of Catherine Hall in St James, Jamaica. Partner of Jane Stone (q.v.), parent with her of Hugh Barnett I (q.v.) and with some family connection to Samuel Barnett of Redland (q.v.).

  1. M.A. St. James, 1731, '36. Died 1745, aged 67 years. Interred at Catherine Hall Estate. His daughter Mrs. Ann Curtis died 1700 [sic], aged 44 years. Interred also on the same Estate.

  2. Jonathan Barnett of St James, Esquire. Estate probated in Jamaica in 1750. Slave-ownership at probate: 144 of whom 81 were listed as male and 63 as female. 26 were listed as boys, girls or children. Total value of estate at probate: £6770.76 Jamaican currency of which £5930 currency was the value of enslaved people. Estate valuation included £0 currency cash, £194.46 currency debts and £0 currency plate.
