Biography

Inherited 540 acres of land in St Elizabeth on the death of her first husband Thomas Lockyear (his estate was probated in 1676). Possibly also the mother of Jane Alexander (perhaps stepmother). Died in 1677.

Alice Alexander, relative of Thomas Lockyear and executor to his will. 10/11/1676.

To Jane Alexander my brick house with the yard on the backside and all the appurtenances belonging to it. But if she shall die without a child then to this to her father my husband Nickolas Alexander. And if she has a child then to her and her child forever.

To my well beloved husband all the rest of my houses and lands in Port Royal, Jamaica, with all my goods, chattels of what kind to him and his heirs forever.

To the body of friends £100 sterling.

To my first cousin in Suffolk, England, £50 sterling, or any one of them that demand that.

To Edward Moulder my 540 acres in the Cabuettas in St Elizabeth, Jamacia, which my former husband Thomas Lockyear patented in his name.

To Mary Galloway £5 sterling.

To my "two little Negroes" Black Betty and Grace their freedom, that they may be well accounted in apparel, and £5 sterling to Betty and £3 sterling to Grace at the opinion of the aged, and that they shall live with Jane Alexander until that time expired. In case of Jane's decease, they to live with her father Nickolas Alexander, and in case of both their death to the body of friends to care for them. They to be kept in household employment and no hardship all the time of their being under twenty years of age.

To Anne Gaudy whatever she stands indebted to me.

To Samuel Johnson, son of Ralph Johnson £10 sterling.

To John Casturight £20 sterling to be paid to him at going off this island, to accommodate him in his voyages and travels.

To Mary Lockyear, sister of Thomas Lockyear, my former husband, £20 sterling, to be sent to her in London if she if living.

My dear and loving husband Nickolas Alexander to be my sole executor.

Nickolas Alexander swore to administer the will 16/05/1677.
