Biography

The first of the Morants in Jamaica. Father of John Morant II and grandfather of John Morant III. Died in 1683. It's not clear which of the family estates were established by this John Morant.

  1. John Morant, planter. Estate probated in Jamaica in 1686. Slave-ownership at probate: 29 of whom 15 were listed as male and 14 as female. 9 were listed as boys, girls or children. Total value of estate at probate: £1016.02 Jamaican currency of which £395 currency was the value of enslaved people. Estate valuation included £0 currency cash, £0 currency debts and £0 currency plate.
