Uncle and heir of Joseph Barton Phipps (q.v.), in whose will he was described as 'of Devonshire'.

  1. Will of John Phipps of [Prospect Place] St George Southwark Surrey proved 12/05/1800. He left Unity Park Pen and the enslaved people on it in trust, with 1/3rd of the profits to go to Mary Tourner [?] wife of Thomas Tourner carpenter of Dunkirk, and the other 2/3rd to accumulate for the children of the Tourners, including Thomas Phipps Tourner. One of his trustees was Thomas de la Beche.
