Biography

  1. Edward Bathurst of St Catherine, Esquire. Estate probated in Jamaica in 1753. Slave-ownership at probate: 0. Total value of estate at probate: £1283.74 Jamaican currency of which £0 currency was the value of enslaved people. Estate valuation included £0 currency cash, £1283.74 currency debts and £0 currency plate.

  2. The estate of Edward Bathurst was filed in the Accounts Produce as the sale of a pen, by Stephen Lost and Samuel Smith as administrators.

  3. Edward Bathurst was listed in the Jamaican Quit Rent books for 1754 as the owner of 500 acres of land in St Mary.

  4. Tentatively identified as the Edward Bathurst, eldest son of Edward Bathurst of Finchcocks (1680-1772) and his first wife Elizabeth nee Stringer (1685-1715), who died in Jamaica in 1751. This Edward married Dorothy, one of the daughters of Lancelot Lee, of Coton, dear Bridgenorth, Shropshire, and had a daughter named Dorothy who died at the age of 92 in 1837.
