Biography

Identified as a 'West Indian' MP by Judd.

Grandson of the founder of the Barbados Codrington dynasty (who had moved to Barbados in 1628). Eldest son of John Codrington of Barbados and Elizabeth, daughter of Col. William Bates of Barbados. William Codrington inherited great wealth from both his father and his uncle. By 1721 he had settled at Dodington Park, Gloucestershire. Created baronet 1721. Married (1718) Elizabeth née Bethell. When Codrington died in 1738 he left £25,000 to each of their 5 daughters.

Exact date of birth not known but he was baptised on 2 May 1680 at St Martin in Barbados.
