Latimer Whittle

Biography

Eldest son of Grace Mary Whittle (d. 1819) and as such a beneficiary with his siblings in the trust fund which included Peter's Rock and Mount Charles in St Andrew, Jamaica.

  1. Married Anne Steen Kelly in Coylton, Aryshire, 20/09/1847, when she was of this parish and he was of Belfast. Their daughter child Catherine Coates Latimer Whitte was born 01/02/1856 at 30 New Bridge Street, Ayr, when Latimer Whittle was given as and engineer of Clogherna near Dungannon, Ireland.

  2. In 1861, Latimer was living on Castle Street, Abergavenny, Wales, age 48, civil engineer, born Ireland, with his wife Ann Jane age 32, also born Ireland, daughter Catherine Coats Latimer age 5 born Scotland, Margaret Latier age 22 months born Ireland and James Latimer age 22 months born Ireland. The birth of Frances Green Latimer was registered Q1 1862 in Abergavenny. Another daughter, Anne Maria Latimer, was baptised 15/08/1864 in Seaforth, Lancashire. James Latimer was buried in Sephton, Lancashire, in 1865.

  3. Latimer and some of his children emigrated to Jamaica. Catherine married in 1880 in Kingston, Jamaica, and died in Kentucky, USA in 1932. Margaret married in 1883 in Kingston. Frances married in 1885 in Kingston. Latimer Whittle died 29/04/1891 at Peter's Rock, St Andrew, age 78; the informant was his daughter Frances.
