John Sims

???? - 1814

Biography

Owner of Holland estate in Trelawney 1793-1794. Almost certainly John Sims merchant of London Street, City of London [and Walthamstow] whose will was proved 30/12/1814. This man's will was silent on property in Jamaica, but his executors were John Wedderburn 'of Bedford Square' (q.v. under John Wedderburn of Spring Garden), George Grote and John Jackson, while his daughter Elizabeth Rutherford Sims married Daniel Stephenson (q.v.). Another daughter, Frances James Sims, married the elder James William Freshfield (q.v.), while his grand-daughter Elizabeth Sims Stephenson married Charles Kaye Freshfield. John Sims left the bulk of his estate to his wife Frances for life and instructed his executors and trustees to raise £20,000 and pay the income to his daughters Frances James Sims and Elizabeth Rutherford Sims. The will as copied in the PCC records online makes no mention of his deceased son Charles James Sims but the attestation refers to the deletion from the will of two phrases referring to this son Charles James Sims, deletions not apparent in the copy online. Charles James Sims appears as the attorney of John Sims for the Holland estate 1793-1794, while Charles James Sims was baptised at St Dunstans and All Saints Stepney, son of John and Frances Sims, in 1772 (Frances James Sims was baptised at St Matthew Bethnal Green in 1773), while the widow of Charles James Sims of Jamaica died July 1816 at Church-Hill House Walthamstow, John Sims' address while he was alive.
