Biography

Husband of Margaret Gillies Barrett (daughter of Robert Storey and widow of Samuel 'Handsome Sam' Barrett).

Born at the famly seat, Newton of Condie, son of Ebenezer Oliphant, 7th of Condie and Mary, daughter of Sir William Stirling of Ardoch. MP for Perth, 1832-1837. Anti-slavery, pro-Reform. Instituted a long-running legal battle to show himself as the legal heir of James Blair Oliphant of Gask. Died 1862.
