Biography

Slave-owner on Tortola. The Carrot Bay estate passed, according to the Slave Registers, by purchase to Richard Beavor Wynne, son of Rev. Richard Wynne of Drumcliff Co. Sligo. In the 1798 Robert Wilkinson map, Rev. Mr Wynne owned lots 7 ('late Brown, sugar') and 23 (sugar); given that Richard Beavor Wynne's mother was Catherine Beavor, daughter of Col. Richard Beavor Brown, LBS has inferred that the Tortola estates passed to Rev. Richard Wynne through his marriage to Catherine Beavor Brown, and then to their son Richard Beavor Wynne. Kathleen Lynn, the Irish nationalist (1874-1955), was the grand-daughter of Rev. Richard Wynne of Drumcliff.
