Anne Isted

1682 - 1763

Biography

An absentee slave-owner, apparently of Mickleton. Sister of Thomas Isted, and sister-in-law and possibly heir of Anne Isted nee Rose (q.v.), the daughter of Fulke Rose of Jamaica. There is ambiguity in the Accounts Produce as to whether the entries for Mickleton refer to this Anne Isted or to Anne Isted nee Rose.

  1. Ann Isted was listed in the Jamaican Quit Rent books for 1754 as the owner of 1100 acres of land in St Catherine.

  2. Will of Anne Isted spinster of St Giles Northampton [made 05/09/1759] proved 03/03/1763. Under the will she left annuities to her nieces, and her [unnamed] estate in Jamaica to her nephew Ambrose Isted (q.v.).

  2. PROB 11/885/82. The will appears on TNA's PROB site under 'Anne Jsted'. Both the Accounts Produce and burial records refer to her as 'Mrs Anne Isted', but this appears to have been a courtesy title.
