Merchant of St Michael Barbados and Greenock Scotland who bought Brighton [Wiltshires] estate in St George: Father of Arthur Oughterson (q.v.) and husband of Mary ann Sheafe (who died in 1802). Deceased before the 1817 Barbados Slave Register; his testament was confirmed by the commissariat in Glasgow 02/07/1817.

Jamaican-born widow of a prominent slave-owner; resident in Britain following the death of her husband in 1818. Accused - and acquitted - of the cruel treatment of some enslaved people whom she brought to Britain with her.
The Buff Bay plantation was a sugar estate next to the Buff Bay River, south of Charlestown in Jamaica. By 1839, the estate was 840 acres.
