Biography

Nephew of Archibald Campbell of Askinish (q.v.). Inherited a 1/3 share in Ashkinish estate in Hanover, Jamaica, on the death of his uncle in 1830. Emigrated to Canada in 1828.

In the censuses of 1851, 1861 and 1871, Trafford can be found in Fullarton, Perth County, Ontario, with his wife Elizabeth and nine children, a Presbyterian farmer.

The census of Hanover for Ashkinish estate in 1823 gives Archibald Campbell, age 71, white, Trafford Campbell, age 32, white, and Elizabeth M. Campbell, age 50, 'mulatto', with four 'quadroon' women: Lily age 23, Ann age 21, Jane age 19 and Margaret age 13 and a young 'quadroon' man Alexander age 18.
