Biography

Second (but eldest surviving) son of Hugh Wallace of Biscany the elder and his wife Margaret nee White.

Born 25/09/1760 and baptised in 1761 in St Elizabeth, Jamaica. Captain in the army, died at Glasgow 30/05/1800. Married 25/08/1788 to Frances, second daughter of James Ritchie of Busbie and Craigton. (James Ritchie was a merchant in Glasgow and a founder of the Thistle Bank.) Frances died 23/04/1842. Six sons and one daughter.

Hugh Ritchie Wallace, eldest son (q.v.).

James Ritchie, second son, born 30/06/1792, lieutenant RN, died at sea in 1813, unmarried.

William Wallace, third son, born 16/07/1794. Bought Rhynd estate in Fife. Inherited Busbie and Cloncaird in Ayrshire from his maternal uncle Henry Richie of Busbie. Married Jamet Crawford, duaghter of Samuel Cooper of Failford and Ballindalloch, four sons and two daughters.

John Ritchie, fourth son, born 1795, died unmarried 1825.

Thomas, fifth son, born 1797, died at Spanish Town, Jamaica, 1843.

Robert, sixth son, born 1798, died 1852. Married Katherine, youngest daughter of Charles Tennant of St Rollox, four sons and four daughters.

Inherited [possibly a half-share] in Biscany estate in St Elizabeth from his father in 1774.
