Biography

  1. The will of Isaac Baruh Lousada merchant of Devonshire Square City of London was proved 16/06/1831. In his will, he requested that he be interred in the Portuguese burial ground at Mile End Town. Altogether his legacies exceeded £85,000. He left legacies to a number of Jewish charitable organisations to the Jewish Portuguese synagogues in Kingston, Jamaica and Barbados, and to the poor of the parish of St Botolph, Bishopsgate Street. Also named in his will are his sons David and Emanuel and his deceased sons Jacob and Moses; his brother Emanuel Baruh Lousada of Sidmouth; his unmarried daughters Abigail, Esther and Sarah; his married daughters Rachel (widow of his nephew Daniel Baruh Lousada), Rebecca (wife of Moses Gutteres), Lydia (wife of his nephew Isaac Baruh Lousada, junior) and Bilah Baruh de Symon (wife of his late son Moses); his granddaughter Julie Lousada, daughter of his late son Jacob; Rebecca Aguilar, the wife of his cousin Isaac Aguilar of Devonshire Square; his daughters-in-law Harriet (wife of his son David), Jane (wife of his son Emanuel) and Roberta (widow of his son Jacob). He left legacies to his friend Simon Barrow (q.v.), merchant, a son of his late friend Jacob Barrow of London; to Jacob Mendes de Costa, senior; to Manuel de Castro; and to Samuel Cardozo. He named as his residuary legatees his sons Emanuel and David, whom he also named as his executors along with his brother Emanuel and Simon Barrow.
