John Cholmley [or Cholmondly] Roach

1760 - ????

Biography

There appear to have been two and possibly three men of this name active in Barbados under slavery. This is probably John Cholmley Roach, born c. 1760, who married Sarah Jones in 1785. A second man of this name was born c. 1798 and buried in St Philip, Barbados, 5 August 1837. His abode was given as Drakes. If it was the same man of this name as the one whose birth year is given as 1798 then he would have been only 18 or 19 at the time he registered an estate, tentatively identified by LBS as Graeme Hall, in 1817, and which was swapped for Ruby c. 1823. J. Cholmley Roach jun., an awardee in the 1830s, was either 1798-1837 or a third man.
