Biography

Formerly of Demerara, with a child born in Demerara in 1806 baptised in London in 1815, and dying in Islington c. 1830.

  1. Oriana Watson late Lawrence, wife of Goulden Terrace Islington, whose will was proved 12/07/1830, identified her second husband as Richard Watson of Demerara and herself as formerly the wife and late the widow of Thomas Lawrence, also of Demerara. She left her property in trust to Thomas Hubbard, her first husband's nephew, to pay £200 to her sister Ann Anderson and annuities of £60 p.a. to another sister Sarah Harris spinster and of £40 p.a. to Harriet Lawrence of Demerara, a free coloured woman and the daughter of another free coloured woman Harriet Pringle, with the rest of her estate for the benefit of her seven children (5 daughters, 2 sons) from her first marriage.

  2. William John, son of Thomas ('planter') and Oriana Lawrance [sic] also of Gloucester Street. ('said to have been born about March 1806 in Demerary') was baptised at St George the Martyr in Queen Square 27/04/1815.

  3. Oriana Watson aged 60 of 'Becknam Kent' was buried 01/05/1830 at St Martin-in-the-Fields.
