John Cunninghame 13th of Craigends

1759 - 1822


Biography

Son of William Cunninghame, 10th of Craigends and his wife Margaret Cuninghame (his parents had been first cousins). Inherited after the deaths of his eldest brother Alexander, 11th of Craigends (1756-1790) and his second brother William, 12th of Craigends (1757-1792). Grandvale had been aquired by his grandfather Alexander 9th of Craigends (1690-1742) and great uncle William Cunninghame (b. 1693), who had married Katherine and Agnes, sisters of Sir James Campbell of Grandvale (d. 1731).

Married Frances, daughter of Sir James Maxwell of Pollok, 10/05/1797. Married, secondly, Margaret, daughter of Sir William Cunninghame-Fairlie of Robertfield and widow of Captain Robert Maxwell, in July 1800. Eleven children with his second wife including William Cunninghame, 14th of Craigends (1801-1852).
