Biography

Inferred to be the brother of William Hine (q.v.), who described him of infirm mind in his [William's] will made in 1834 and proved in 1841. Presumably also related to Thomas Hine, given as the next owner of Bold Attempt in Trelawney, and Grace Caldwell nee Hine, sister of Thomas.

John Hine and his wife Mary (sometimes with the middle name Giveney, nee Davis) had ten children baptised in Hanover, St James and Trelawney: Mary Ann (1793), Sarah Judith (1796), Elizabeth Giveney (1796), John James (1799), Comfort Grace (1801), Sarah Judith (1806), Daniel Davis (1808), Eliza Elsey (1813), Lydia Martha (1813) and Frances Ann (1814).

  2. John Hine, age 65, "white" was living in Lucea in the Hanover census of 1823 with his children Daniel (age 15), Mary Ann (26), Comfort (22), Judith (17), Lydia (14), Alice (12) and Frances (9).
