Biography

Partner with George Baillie, and William and Archibald Alves (each of whom q.v.) in St Vincent in the 1790s, later a slave-owner in Demerara (the Bellefield and Phoenix Park estates), brother of William Inglis of Kingsmills (1747-1801) the Provost of Inverness, and cousin of Hugh B. Inglis (q.v.). He had sold out of slave-ownership before the compensation process in the 1830s.

Will of George Inglis of Kingsmills proved 02/03/1847. The will identifies his wife Helen as Helen Alves and later refers to a legacy from Archibald Alves, Helen's brother and George Inglis' former business partner and brother-in-law. George Inglis' sons were in the Madras Civil Service and the Madras Military Service.
