Claimant or beneficiary

Biography

Unsuccessful claimant for Little Sion and Sion Hill estates in Antigua as owner-in-fee. Married Mary Cooper Vanderhorst, daughter of Elias Vanderhorst (1738-1816) of South Carolina. His daughter Cordelia Duncombe Taylor married Alexander Moffatt who took the name Duncombe (q.v., under Alexander Duncombe ne Moffat).

  1. John Duncombe Taylor 'for many years an inhabitant of Clifton Gloucestershire' died at Sion Hill 'in his native island of Antigua' February 28 1835. The Bristol Record Office holds a will reportedly dated 04/08/1784 which shows him of Clifton with a codicil of 13/12/1816 giving residence as Brislington. Online sources suggest a birthdate of 1774 which makes a will dated 1784 problematic.
