Biography

Ann Bartlett [sic] of Nottingham Place London counterclaimed apparently unsuccessfully for compensation for the enslaved people on Union Island in St Vincent, as legatee of Samuel Span for £5000, and on Paradise and Cane Farm in Trinidad as widow under bond dated 25/03/1806 for £5000 plus arrears of interest, apparently reflecting the same legacy from Samuel Span. The original claimant for both awards was Benjamin Bickley as executor of Samuel Span.

  1. Daughter of Samuel Span of Bristol whose will was proved 1796: his will starts with the bequest of £5000 to his daughter Ann. She was the sister of Samuel Span, merchant of Bristol, whose will was proved in 1811.

  2. Ann Span, daughter of Samuel Span and Edith, baptised 18/08/1777 at Bristol. Ann Span or Spann married Patrick Bartlet or Bartlett at Clifton 16/03/1824. The will of Anne [sic] Bartlet widow of St Marylebone Middlesex was proved 05/06/1844; Anne Bartlet of Nottingham Place aged 67 was buried at St Marylebone 27/05/1844.

  3. Will of Patrick Bartlet of St Marylebone proved 17/08/1830. He was buried at St Marylebone 12/08/1830 'of Nottingham Place' aged 78. In his will be left an annuity of £500 pa to Anne, chargeable on Limlair, Beausejour and Bonair estates in Carriacou.
