Writer and barrister. Cousin of William Hart Coleridge (q.v.), Bishop of Barbados from 1824-1842. Henry Nelson accompanied him when he was appointed, the two of them arriving in Barbados in 1825. Henry Nelson Coleridge’s Six months in the West Indies (1826) (originally published anonymously) followed this trip.
In 1829 Henry Nelson married his cousin Sara (1802-1852), daughter of the poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge.

Free woman of colour; left Demerara in 1812 as a young woman and settled in Starthforth, Yorkshire, where she died in 1862.
