Biography

  1. John Bardwell Ebden was a prominent merchant, banker and politician in the Cape Colony. He married Antoinette Adriana Kirchmann. Their second son, Charles Hotson Ebden (1811-1867), educated in England and Carlsruhe, settled in 1832 in Sydney where he joined the pastoral movement forming two sheep runs on the Murray River in 1835. In March 1837 he moved a substantial flock of sheep to a run north west of Melbourne on a scale of operations that indicated that Charles Ebden had considerable capital behind him.
