Biography

Son of William Pulsford (1772-17 December 1833) and grandson of Robert Pulsford the elder (both of whom q.v.).  At 11 Hyde Park Terrace in 1844 [OBS]. It is unclear whether he had any mercantile activity, but he left £350,000 in 1879. A number of the claims and awards shown in his name might have been from his late father's firm.

  1. The father, William Pulsford is in Rubinstein (reference 1834/17, died 17 December 1833, leaving £250,000 PROB 11/1828 01/02/1834); Robert Pulsford = 1836/33 (probated 20/01/1836, PROB 11/1856 leaving £450,000). Rubinstein has very little about them, describing them as wine merchants of Great St Helens, apparently brothers and positing William's father as probably Robert Pulsford. William Pulsford of St Helens married Martha Hobson by license 02/11/1805 at Tottenham All Hallows.

  2. Baptism of William Pulsford, son of William and Martha Pulsford of Stamford Hill, at St John Hackney 20/08/1813 (born 04/12/1812). Will of William Pulsford late of 11 Hyde Park Terrace who died 01/09/1879 at Southill Park Brackness, proven by Alfred Latham of 23 Norfolk Street the surviving executor 06/02/1880, personal estate under £350,000.

  3. A Robert Pulsford (probably the brother of William) who died 03/06/1888 of 6 Upper Belgrave Street and of Pitt in the parish of Hennock Devon proved by Charles Seale Hayne of 3 Eaton Sq., and Frederick William Allfrey of Stanbury near Reading surviving executors, personal estate £192,468 3s 5d, resworn August 1888 £194,068 3s 5d.  A Robert Pulsford was also an MP for Hereford in 1841, [giving his address as 11 Hyde Park Terrace].  Robert Pulsford, son of William and Martha Pulsford, was baptised 21/04/1815 at St John Hackney.

  4. In 1851, William Pulsford aged 38 born Clapton was staying at Wakefield House Berks with the Allfreys.

  5. As far as William Pulsford's award with John Bainbridge for the Aleppo estate in Jamaica is concerned, documents in the Durham Record Office (for property in England) associate Robert and William Pulsford of Great St Helens as trustees of Mark Milbank in transfers c. 1830 involving Elizabeth Bainbridge, widow of George Bainbridge merchant of London. The catalogue identifies John Bainbridge of Park Crescent, Portland Place as son and heir of George Bainbridge.
