Mary Eliza Cargill, probably the widow of Thomas Cargill and mother of John Cargill (q.v.).

  1. Burial of Mary Eliza Cargill of Beaumont Street aged 80 St Marylebone [made in 1833] proved 10/10/1836. Will of Mary Eliza Cargill, widow of St Marylebone Middlesex, proved 10/11/1836. Under the will she left £100 to her grandson Jasper Cargill [later revoked in a codicil], son of her son John Cargill; she left all the enslaved people she had to her son John Cargill; she forgave the £5000 currency owed to her by her other son Robert Cargill of Kingston; and she left £6000 to her son Richard Cargill. She left £40 to her servant Jane Ashley and manumitted her should she return to Jamaica. Her residuary legatee was her eldest son John. In a codicil she left her son Richard a further £500 to be paid out of the compensation for her enslaved people, and recognised that she could leave only the period of apprenticeship to her son John in respect of the enslaved people. She made no other adjustment in respect of Emancipation.
