Biography

Resident in Jamaica, shared the compensation for Bishops Mount in St Mary with a family group of counter-claimants including his sister Elizabeth Brodie (q.v.), Fanny Shaw (q.v.) and the Rev. John Campbell Shaw, all children of David Shaw and Henrietta/Harriet Campbell.

  1. Listed as a merchant in Leith, Edinburgh when a witness at the wedding of his sister Elizabeth Shaw to John Buchan Brodie (both q.v.) in 1818. "Edinburgh 11 May 1818. John Buchan Brodie Esqr W.S. St Andrews Parish and Elizabeth Tucker Shaw St Georges Parish Daughter of the late Dr David Shaw Jamaica that the parties were lawfully Married 14 August last Certified by the Parties in the presence of Charles Oliphant Esqr W.S. & Alexr Hamilton Shaw Merchant Leith and Brother to the Bride, Signed by the parties and the said Charles Oliphant & Alexr Hamilton Shaw."

  2. Elizabeth's mother Henrietta Campbell died aged 63 at Bishop's Mount Jamaica in October 1832. Her burial record identifies her as "Quadroon".
