Biography

Counterclaimed with his wife Mary (formerly Payne, née Monoux) against her son Sir Charles Payne (q.v.) for the compensation for the enslaved people on the French Ground estate on St Kitts. The counterclaim was withdrawn, but but subsequently the compensation money was assigned to be invested in British stocks and any arrears of her £400 annuity were to be met from the compensation money.

  1. Born 1770, educated at Westminster and Trinity Cambridge (matriculated 1790, BA 1793), married in 1811 Mary the widow of Sir John Payne bart., and daughter of Sir Philip Monoux, died 31/12/1845.

  2. Will of Joseph Francis Buckworth of No. 9 York Street Portman Square proved 29/01/1846; will of Dame Mary Buckworth, commonly called Lady Payne of No. 9 York Street Portman Square proved 10/05/1850.
