Biography

Elizabeth or Eliza Hodge was the widow of Henry Hodge (q.v.) and inherited Hodges Bay from him, before selling it to her sister-in-law Grace Hodge. It has been inferred that she was the same woman as the Eliza Hodge heir of Nicholas Symes, whose entry for 71 enslaved people on an estate identified as Mangrove in the 1828 Slave Register immediately followed that for Hodge's Bay. Possibly also the awardee of the same name for two enslaved people on Antigua in the 1830s, but this has not been confirmed.
