UCL iLAC Partnership with Eversheds Sutherland shortlisted in 2023 LawWorks Pro Bono Awards

13 November 2023

The partnership between UCL Integrated Legal Advice Clinic and Eversheds Sutherland, which offers pro bono assistance, has been shortlisted for ‘Best New Pro Bono Activity’ at this year's LawWorks Pro Bono Awards.

2023 LawWorks Pro Bono Awards 2023

Since January 2023, UCL iLAC and global law firm, Eversheds Sutherland, have been working in partnership to offer pro bono assistance to individuals applying for Personal Independence Payments (PIP) and those applying for mandatory reconsiderations of negative or unfavourable decisions, to address the growing demand from those in the community living with disabilities and health conditions.

So far at least 27 individuals have  been supported with their PIP applications, review forms, and mandatory reconsiderations. Support from ESI lawyers has increased UCL iLAC’s capacity and meant that we have been able to support individuals who would have otherwise been turned away due to lack of capacity.

Speaking about the project, Michael Marshall, solicitor at UCL iLAC says, ‘The project has been working really well. Our paralegal reports that the clients have been overwhelmingly positive about the service they have received. It has allowed us to significantly increase our capacity and the number of cases the clinic is able to take on. We have been able to increase the number of clients we take on significantly and that increase is down to the support we are getting from Eversheds.’

The winners will be announced at an event at the Law Society of England and Wales, Chancery Lane, London on 5 December. Hosted by journalist and broadcaster, Samira Ahmed, the evening will be a magical night celebrating the legal pro bono work undertaking by solicitors and LawWorks.
