Celebrating PhD success

The Faculty of Laws hosted a drinks reception to celebrate the award of PhD degrees during this academic year.

The Faculty of Laws hosted a drinks reception to celebrate the award of PhD degrees during this academic year to: Luminita Olteanu, Gönenç Gürkaynak, Jeevan Hariharan, Daniella Lock, Joseph Crampin, Andrew McLean, Peter Lythe, and Alonso Gurmendi Dunkelberg.  The reception was well attended by members of the PGR community, supervisors, and Faculty members.  Professor Jane Holder, Director of Research Studies, remarked that the Faculty of Laws is incredibly proud of their achievements and looking forward to their formal graduation in September. 

Their PhD theses cover a diverse range of subjects: 

  • Luminita Olteanu 'Rethinking Trade Mark Reputation and its Susceptibility to Dilutive Harms' 
  • Gönenç Gürkaynak 'Innovation Considerations in Merger Control Analysis: Competition Law at Crossroads' 
  • Jeevan Hariharan 'The Protection of Physical Privacy Under English Law' 
  • Daniella Lock ‘The Protection of ECHR Rights in UK National Security Law' 
  • Joseph Crampin 'Good Faith in International Dispute Settlement' 
  • Andrew McLean 'Competition Law Under Financial Capitalism'
  • Peter Lythe 'Utility, Truth, and God: Religion in the Thought of Jeremy Bentham' 
  • Alonso Gurmendi Dunkelberg 'Ending the Sharp War: Paradigm Shift and the History of International Humanitarian Law'

This celebration marks a successful year in the MPhil/PhD Programme, in which Laws welcomed 15 new students. This group of students recently enjoyed an end of year study retreat at Cumberland Lodge, with seminars and workshops, as well as walks and talks in Windsor Great Park.
