UCL Laws welcomes return of staff-student football matches

7 February 2023

Last month saw the return of UCL Laws football sessions, with staff and students across the Faculty taking part at Coram's Fields.

Several individuals, of varying football skill levels, from UCL Laws and from the UCL Graduate Law Society took to the field on 24 January for a friendly game of 6-a-side football.

In a stunning display of athleticism and enthusiasm, the game - held at Coram’s Fields between 1pm-2pm, and featured Faculty and Professional Services staff, PhD students, and LLM students - ended 5–2 to the postgraduate team. Their goal tally could have been even higher had it not been for a highly impressive and characteristically acrobatic goalkeeping display by Dr Tim Causer (Principal Research Fellow, The Bentham Project).

A similar session took place at 1-2 pm on 31 January, where a 5-a-side game saw the welcome return of midfield wonderkid and fan favourite, Henry Balogun (Operations Administrator). While officials lost track of the scoreline on that occasion because it was such a veritable goal fest, the consensus among all those involved, as well as among spectators and passers-by, was that football was the real winner.

Further UCL Laws football sessions are scheduled at Coram’s Fields for the coming weeks, with more to be scheduled after. All are welcome to join, regardless of ability or experience.

If you would like to get involved, please contact Dr Chris Riley (c.riley@ucl.ac.uk) or Mr Lawrence Xu (lawrence.xu.22@ucl.ac.uk).
