ELI – Unidroit Model European Rules of Civil Procedure published by Oxford University Press
23 September 2021
Dr John Sorabji is a leading contributor to the volume, which was developed as part of a cooperative project of the European Law Institute (ELI) and the International Institute for the Unification of Private Law (UNIDROIT), dealing with civil procedure law.
ELI – Unidroit Model European Rules of Civil Procedure: From Transnational Principles to European Rules of Civil Procedure is edited by the European Law Institute and UNIDROIT, with Dr John Sorabji (Lecturer at UCL Laws) as a leading contributor.
The long-term project ran from February 2014 to February 2020 and concluded in an ELI-UNIDROIT Instrument. This volume consists of the ELI-UNIDROIT Instrument on the European Rules of Civil Procedure, which features Rules and accompanying comments. It considers the diverse traditions in Europe concerning civil procedure law and aims to find a common thread in them.
The book has already influenced procedural reform in some European countries, and has been said to be a reference point for European civil procedure for the ‘coming decades’ at an ELI webinar hosted in July 2021. The webinar on ‘Future of Civil Procedural Law – ELI-UNIDROIT Model European Rules of Civil Procedure and Their Impact’ featured Dr Sorabji as a speaker and reflected on the impact the Model Rules have had and might have in the field.
A recording of the webinar is available watch online on the ELI website.
