The Law Teacher of the Year Award recognises a visionary teacher or colleague in Law.

Steven Vaughan, UCL Faculty of Laws Senior Lecturer

UCL Laws is delighted to share that Professor Steven Vaughan, Professor of Law and Professional Ethics at UCL Laws, has been shortlisted for this year's Law Teacher of the Year Award.

Professor Vaughan is one of six law teachers moving into the second stage of the award, following the first round where candidates are nominated by work colleagues, educational institutions, students or representatives of other public or private bodies. The competition is open to all law teachers in the UK who teach law students on a degree programme.

Professor Vaughan’s research focuses on environmental law; lawyers' ethics and regulation; legal education; diversity; and corporate governance. He teaches Laws’ Connections (an introductory Law module for first year LLB students), Tort Law, six different Environmental Law modules, and Critical Introduction to Sexuality Studies.

He is co-Director (with Professor Maria Lee) of the Centre for Law and the Environment, co-Director (with Dr Simon Lock) of qUCL (UCL's queer research network), and is co-lead of OutLaws, the Staff-Student LGBT+ Network at UCL Laws.

Commenting on his nomination, Professor Vaughan said:

"I'm completely thrilled to be on this shortlist. Teaching is at the heart of my life as an academic and I see the chance to inform, challenge, and shape our students as a real privilege."
