Professor Hiroshi Oda, Sir Ernest Satow Professor of Japanese Law at UCL Laws, has been awarded an official commendation by Koji Tsuruoka, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary at the Embassy of Japan in the UK.

The Ambassador’s Commendation was awarded in recognition of the Japanese Law Chair’s contribution to promoting Japanese law, disseminating information, and contributing to the exchange of knowledge between lawyers not only in the UK, but in Europe and the US and with the expectation for future activities in disseminating information of Japanese law in the UK and Europe.

The occasion was marked with a testimonial dinner attended by Professor Piet Eeckhout, Dean of UCL Laws; Sir Jeffrey Jowell QC (Hon), former Vice Provost at UCL Laws; Victor Chu, Chair of the UCL Council; and Lord Woolf, British life peer, and retired barrister and judge, who were joined by their spouses.

Professor Oda’s other recent activity includes delivering a lecture on 10 September at the University of São Paulo on Japanese Arbitration Law and Court Decisions (Sao Paulo University/Brazil-Canada Chamber of Commerce).
