  • Dr Daniela Simone interviewed in legal scholarship podcast

Dr Daniela Simone, was recently invited to discuss her copyright scholarship on the Ipse Dixit podcast, hosted by Brian L. Frye, Spears-Gilbert Associate-Professor of Law at the University of Kentucky College of Law.

During the interview, Dr Simone explains which works copyright law protects and why. She then discusses how copyright doctrine currently assigns authorship and ownership to works created by multiple contributors. Referencing her recent monograph, Copyright and Collective Authorship: Locating the Authors of Collaborative Work, published by Cambridge University Press, she explains how current copyright doctrine struggles to provide the "right" answer to the question of the authorship of collective works. Illustrating her argument using the examples of Wikipedia, Australian Indigenous art, scientific articles and film, she explains how copyright could better assign authorship in the case of collaborative works by considering social norms and the specific context of the work’s creation.
