Professor Ioannis Lianos commented on the Google Android decision of the European Commission

Professor Ioannis Lianos was quoted yesterday by the Wall Street Journal on the Google Android decision of the European Commission. Following a recent abuse of dominance case against Google, Professor Lianos said that EU Law places a particular onus on companies that dominate a sector and tries to promote competition even if only potential harm can be shown.

The case, brought by the EU's executive arm, the European Commission, accused Google of stifling competition by forcing handset makers to bundle its apps with its Android operating system, which it offers free. 

The EU Law approach contrasts with US law which focuses on demonstrated harm rather than potential harm and market structure.
