Dr Alex Mills speaks on ‘Jurisdiction, Conflict of Laws and Data Protection in Cyberspace'

Dr Alex Mills, Reader in Public and Private International Law at UCL Faculty of Laws, spoke at a conference on ‘Jurisdiction, Conflict of Laws and Data Protection in Cyberspace’ at the Max Planck Institute for Procedural Law, Luxembourg, on Thursday 12 October 2017.
Dr Mills discussed the contractual relationships between social media providers and their users, focusing on Facebook as a case study. This included consideration of the effectiveness of the choice of court and choice of law clauses in Facebook’s terms and conditions, as well as complexities arising from Facebook’s international corporate structure, looking at case law from England, the Court of Justice of the European Union, Australia, Canada, Ireland, and the United States.
